I was born and grew up in Richards Bay, KwaZulu Natal, South Africa where I completed my schooling at Grantleigh College. Although I took part in different sports during my school years, cycling has been a family passion, and my sister raced with me in my earlier years and my parents owned two bike shops. When Danni (my sister) and I were young girls, riding our bikes, running and mountain biking were the things we did together as a family. My dad made this time together so much fun, so our love for the sport grew steadily. He was the one who woke up at 04:00 every morning to follow me on my training rides, got me to all my races and was my biggest supporter.
Since I started cycling professionally, there have been other people like Dave and Lynette Burger, my teammates, Team Opposition and the sponsors – both locally and internationally – who have helped me to progress to the next level. CSA has provided me with the opportunity to cycle in African and different parts of the world, and I am grateful for those experiences. I have been in a long term relationship with Ryan Gibbons, who rides for the Dimension Data team. Our shared love for the sport and the hard work and discipline it requires helps to keep me focused and on track. I will be joining Ryan in Italy for part of the 2018 European season, riding for the Aromatlia Elite Ladies team. Our local Demacon Ladies Team has had an amazing start to the year and I look forward to joining them again for the later part of the 2018 SA cycling season. Cycling has taught me the joy of winning, how to cope with losing, the importance of being a team player, to nurture my God given Talent and, most importantly, to have fun.
